Physician and head of the first-ever Department of Palliative Medicine in the Czech Republic, established at the General University Hospital in Prague.
Kateřina Rusinová has dedicated her entire career to caring for patients at the end of life, while also working to popularize and firmly establish palliative medicine as a full-fledged part of the healthcare system.
She played a key role in founding the professional journal Palliative Medicine, which connects research, clinical practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
She is involved in teaching medical students and doctors, promoting cross-disciplinary approaches and the transfer of knowledge into practice.
She also contributes to the implementation of care standards in hospitals and institutions that have previously overlooked palliative care, and raises public awareness about what palliative care truly means – and why it matters not only for those who are dying, but also for their loved ones.
