The cooperation between BurdaMedia Extra and STEM (Institute for Empirical Research) demonstrates how powerful the connection between media and independent research can be in an age overwhelmed with information. The joint project eXtra was launched shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when the internet was flooded with disinformation. It was not enough to simply report the truth – it was necessary to actively debunk lies and protect the public space.
Today, eXtra focuses not only on the war, but also on disinformation about the European Union and other topics. It provides the public with verified information while also teaching people how to check facts themselves. In this way, the project contributes to a more resilient and better-informed society.
